Ghost in The Machine: Feeding On Your Attention
Liner notes
There is a ghost in the machine. 👁️💻
Every second you spend scrolling, every comment you leave, and every post you obsess over is a direct offering of psychic energy to this machine. The algorithm takes that energy, morphs it, and projects it back into your reality, dictating your desires, anxieties, and worldview. You aren't just using an app. You are participating in a massive, global technomancy ritual. The question is: What kind of entity are you feeding?
In this episode, we break down "The Digital Egregore" and how to protect your consciousness in a hyper-connected world. Discover how shared beliefs, focused intention, and collective energy manifest unseen forces in both the spiritual and physical realms.

diana: Something haunts the machine. It thrives on every chime, ping, and notification. There is a ghost in the machine and it is actively shaping your thoughts, your fears, your timeline, and your internet feed right now without you even realizing it. If you've spent any time on the internet lately, you You've noticed how fast a collective thought or obsession can spark. One day a word, a style, or perhaps even a panic doesn't exist. And the next day, millions of people are moving in a single synchronized hive mind. In modern psychological terms, We call it internet culture, viral trends, or algorithms. Are these platforms just tools or are they spawning modern day monsters? Welcome to Beyond the Spiritual Nexus, your cosmic connection. I'm your host, Diana Rose. And I'm Xandra. Welcome back to Cosmic Monday, where we like to talk about all things mystical, magical, and supernatural. So tonight we're changing things up a bit. We're talking about something you've probably felt before, even if you couldn't quite put a name to it. It's that strange feeling of being completely Swept up in the sort of like hullabaloo of the internet, honestly. All that noise and all that chatter and how it gets downloaded right into our brains. We're looking at how the things we scroll through every day can shape our thoughts, our moods, and our stress levels without us even noticing it. Salem's getting very friendly with the microphone. But thousands of years ago, ancient occultists and mystics had a different name for it. They called them egregors and thought forms, non-physical entities created by the focused mental energy and shared belief of a group of people. So tonight we are blending deep esoteric history with modern digital psychology. Potatoes. We are unpacking how secret societies built these collective energy fields in the past, and how modern algorithms and internet fandoms are literally birthing digital entities today. Let's start with the definition, Sandra, because people online throw these terms around interchangeably. But historically, mm, you know, they carry specific weights. So Sandra, what is a basic thought form? A basic thought form. So a thought form or a tulpah in certain Eastern philosophies is an energetic projection created by a single person's intense concentration and emotion and and their repetition. it's essentially a bundle of localized mental energy that takes on a temporary life of its own in the astral field. Historically, you see this in ancient temples, secret societies like the Freemasons or the Golden Dawn. And even deep-rooted cultural folklores. These groups knew that by gathering together and repeating specific symbols and intents. They were actually building a massive psychic umbrella that protected and influenced their members. Yeah, right. but like an egregor, that's that's an evolution of that. So the word comes from the Greek egregoros, meaning watcher or or awake, I think. And egregor is Born when a group of people all anchor their beliefs, their focus, and ritual into the same concept. Yes. once the collective energy field gets big enough, it develops a pseudo-consciousness. It becomes an an independent entity that actually feeds on the emotional energy of people who created it. Yes, and that word actually has a fascinating history. In ancient biblical texts like the book of Enoch. Uhhuh. It was used to describe angelic observers known as the Watchers. So over time the term made its way into modern literature and esoteric history. So like in 1859, the the French author Victor Hugo Hunchback of Notre Dame used Igregore in his poetry to describe mysterious spiritual forces. A few years later, the French occultist Eliphus Levi brought the concept Firmly into Western esoteric philosophy. Right. So by the twentieth century, modern authors like Marth Mark Stavish and Gary Lockman, and a couple others, I think, but they really started exploring how egregors work in a human society, like in the mod like twentieth century modern human society. And essentially an egregore is an autonomous collective psychic energy field, right? Created when a group anchors their shared focus and belief or their emotion into a single concept. So tonight we're bridging those old perspectives with modern digital life. We're taking a look at how shared focus shapes the mood of a group and how modern screens can sometimes, you know, like just suck us in or pull us into head spaces that aren't even really ours. Right. I see what you're saying. so like in a modern day, you know, the modern day context, you have to imagine that with high speed internet, right? Right. So things move a lot faster, just a lot faster. You know, you're not strapping it to a bird's foot or something. And of course, the internet has its sort of central hubs where everyone interacts with the world. So what happens when millions of us, millions of us are looking at the exact same headline, feeling the exact same burst of frustration or stress at the very same moment? Well, that would create a giant feedback loop. The pattern grows. Social media itself is essentially it's like a kind of like a megaphone for shared human emotions. Yeah. when you get a rash online drama, a rash of online drama, for example, you have so many people viewing it and commenting on it, sharing it. It's not just random text on a screen anymore. No. Yeah, definitely not. It turns into a shared cloud of human focus. Yeah. It actually unifies. Yeah. And because those online spaces they they feed on our attention, it's really easy to get caught up on in that. They're those platforms, they're literally built to keep us on them for as long as possible. So if we aren't mindful about protecting our quiet space. It's so easy to just let the online crowd tell us how to feel. Absolutely. It you know, it really becomes like a literal feedback loop. we feed our collective attention into the digital space, and the algorithms then cycle that energy right back to us. So if you don't know how to guard your mental quiet, It's easy to get swept up in that hive mind. And if you don't know how to protect your mental sovereignty, you aren't just scrolling anymore. You are feeding an entity. Well everyone, now that we're all caught up on the egregores and thought forms, it's ghost in the machine. It's time to look on up at the sky for cosmic currents. So today is August third and the universe is giving us a teeny tiny gentle little nudge to check in with ourselves and, you know, protect our peace. So Diana, what's going on up there? Well This week is actually a good week for a reset, Sandra. Today, Chiron stations retrograde in Taurus, which is all about our sense of security, comfort, and physical well being. This transit ultimately asks us to pause and reflect. Consider something like. Is the stress really actually mine? Or am I carrying this for everybody else? So we also have a waning Gibbons moon in Aries, reminding us that it's completely okay to set a brown boundary and step back from the noise. You know, Aries is all about that brave and independent energy, and waning Gibbous as a phase really pushes you to sort of reflect on things. And as the week unfolds, all that reflection and boundary. setting really really helps us rebuild so that we're ready for Thursday on August 6th. Venus is moving into her home sign of Libra, bringing our harmonious focus back to healthy relationships and balanced energy exchanges. The cosmos wants you to keep in mind that true connection should feel grounding, not draining. Right. Then by Sunday, August ninth, Mercury enters the fiery Leo, giving us a boost of confidence to express ourselves clearly and speak from the heart. So really from August third to the ninth, we move from shedding stress to rebalancing our connections and finally stepping into our own well. Confidence. Yes. It really is a grand cosmic invitation to reset yourselves. We can't let that go by without helping you center that energy this week. So if you'd like a simple grounding ritual to help you claim your focus tonight, here's a cozy ritual that you can try right at home. Now putting it together is really easy. All you'll need is a piece of a small piece of paper and a pen, any candle, any color you like, they all work for this. And a heat-proof bowl. You can even use a shell if you like, a small dish of some water, and optionally a pinch of dried rosemary or bay leaf. I mean I would recommend it. Yes, it does help. But you don't need it if you don't have it, but we do recommend it. So to begin, go ahead, set your phone in another room, you know, turn off all your notifications, just give yourself the space and permission to completely become unattached from the screens for a little while. Next. Light your candle and set your small dish of water right beside it. Take a steep slow breath, feel the warmth of the light, and let your body just settle into the room. Now take your pen and paper and write down one specific worry, habit. Or piece of excess baggage that you want to let go of. At least for tonight. Take a moment to focus on your center and then speak your intention out loud. You can say something like: I reclaim my quiet mind. I let go of noise that isn't mine to carry. I am grounded in my own peace. Carefully and safely catch the corner of the paper onto the candle flame, drop it in your heat proof bowl, and watch it turn to ash. As you let that weight drift away. If you brought along some herbs, sprinkle your rosemary or bay leaf right over those ashes. It should start to smell earthy. Breathe it in and let that scent act as a symbol of a fresh start. And finally, dip your fingers into the dish of water. And gently touch your forehead and your heart. Imagine any remaining tension melting away when you feel completely ready. Blow out the candle to seal your peace for the night. Whew, that was a lot. Thought forms can seem like such a complex concept and releasing something is always a lot to take in, you know? But as you just take a moment to breathe and set an attention, that does make a difference. So let's keep it going, right? Yeah. It's time for our tea and tarot. Diana, what am I sipping on this evening? well tonight We have got a blend of holy basil, lemon balm, and rosemary. The holy basil and lemon balm help to Calm your tired nervous system. While rosemary brings a clean, fresh feel to the blend. It's also caffeine free, Sandra. You know I've been trying to cut out caffeine. That is so hard. I don't know how to explain this one. It's very fresh. It has that kind of refreshing, cooling, summery kind of freshness to it. It's good. well I love But while you take your sip, I'm going to shuffle the cards. So I wanted to ask the deck for a practical message. This is so good. You brewed it for all of us to hold on to during our individuality when the world the thought form Feels loud. that's a good one. Here we go. We got nine of swords in reverse. Now that is a practical message, Sandra. Mm-hmm. Sure is when it's right side up, the nine of swords is all about late night overthinking, worry, you know, sp your spiraling thoughts. But when it's in reverse, mm it's kinda like waking up from a bad dream and realizing that you're safe. Yeah, yeah, exactly. So it's a reminder that so much of the stress we carry around isn't as solid as it feels. The moment you step back and realize you don't have to carry every worry that comes your way, the weight just drops. You don't hold the key to your own peace of mind. Or you do hold the key to your own peace of mind. So just take a deep breath, smile, leave all that stress behind. Well everyone, that's all the time we have for tonight. But before we sign off, we just want to remind you, attention is a sacred thing. Especially within our modern world. In a digital world, trying to pull your mind in a thousand directions at once Or choosing where to place your energy is the most powerful magic that you have. Yeah, exactly. So stop letting the algorithms tell you how to feel. You are in the driver's seat, you know? Absolutely. You don't have to feed every entity, every eagorgore, if you will, that pops up on your feed.
